Info on Primary School reconstration Cost:
The school buildings are 30’ X 60’ X 13’ hall types without partitions with corrugated zinc sheet roofings and bamboo walls and timber poles. The schools are also provided with schoolbenches and teachers’ tables and 5 blackboards each. The roofs have water conduits to channel water into glazed earthen jars provided for the purpose as it is the custom of the villages in Myanmar to use rainwater for drinking and cooking purposes. One or two such jars are put at the disposal of the school depending on the number of pupils. Zinc water buckets are also made available at the schools to be used as containers for hygienic drinking water. Hygienic toilets were also constructed at these new schools for the pupils. The total cost of each elementary school is estimated to be around 2000-2500 US Dollars. This includes approximately 2.5 tons of timber, 200-250 sheets of corrugated zinc sheets for roofing plus such items as bamboo wallings, nails and other items cited above plus labour costs etc. Photos will be provided when U Naung Naung Han , who is now in Pyapon supervising the reconstruction work, returns to Yangon on Thursday.
